A powertrain is the complete system that generates and delivers power to the wheels, including the engine, transmission, driveshaft, axles, and differential. It's the collection of parts responsible for taking the energy from the engine and converting it into motion, making the vehicle move forward.  

Here's a breakdown of the key components:

  • Engine: The heart of the vehicle, it generates the power to drive the car. 

  • Transmission: This component takes the power from the engine and adjusts it to suit driving conditions, controlling the amount of power sent to the wheels. 

  • Driveshaft: A shaft that transmits torque (rotational force) from the transmission to the differential. 

  • Differential: Allows the wheels on the same axle to rotate at different speeds, which is crucial for turning. 

  • Axles: These are the shafts that connect the differential to the wheels, holding the vehicle's weight and rotating to transmit power to the wheels.
